5 Time-Saving Kitchen Tools That’ll Make Cooking Dinner (+Clean Up) a Breeze

We all wish we could have more time in a day.

If your house is anything like mine then your days are probably busy with work, after school activities, appointments, school events, and everything else.

What you DON’T have time for is being in the kitchen all day cooking and cleaning. And recently it seems like we have less and less time to even get that done, which isn’t good for a couple of reasons:

  • We end up eating out more and that gets expensive real quick
  • No time to prepare meals means we try to cook the fastest thing we can like frozen, processed meals (which isn’t the healthiest of choices)

My home has gone through a HUGE shift in the last couple of months.

My wife, who has been an amazing SAHM for the last 10 years, has gone back to work as a dental assistant. (I’m really proud of her)

While this has been great all around it’s also introduced some new challenges. Now that both of us work outside the home we have had to find new ways to get things done around the house like cooking and cleaning.

We don’t get home until around 5:15pm and then the rush begins. The kids have to get homework done, we are trying to clean up around the house, we are getting dinner started, and sometimes this all has to be done in under an hour(the kids have softball, baseball, and gymnastics on certain days)

After constantly feeling rushed trying to get dinner on the table we started to rely on being more efficient and using what we already have. We found ourselves really falling back on these 5 time- saving kitchen tools which made cooking and cleaning so much easier.

These kitchen tools have really helped us save time and money and I think it can help you too:

5 Time-Saving Kitchen Tools That’ll Make Cooking (+Clean Up) a Breeze

1. RICE COOKER

We eat a lot of rice in my house…I mean A LOT. It’s pretty much a breakfast, lunch, and dinner thing for us. And as funny as this may sound, cooking rice is an art. Really. So we used to just cook rice when we needed it, which was always, but it didn’t turn out right every time. Sometimes it was overcooked. Sometimes it was too mushy. Sometimes it was too sticky. You get the point. Finally we went out and got this rice cooker and it has made all the difference. Not only is it cooked to perfection each time, but it’s SUPER easy and it’s cooks up to five cups at a time.  Now we always have rice ready to go and the rice cooker keeps it warm. Get some rice and throw some canned black beans and corn, chopped red onions, green onions, and a little ranch dressing and you have a delicious meal in 5 minutes! No joke.

2. BLENDER

Mornings have been a little chaotic around here as we’ve adjusted to our new schedules, so getting a cooked breakfast in my house every day isn’t always the case. My little ones usually have fruit and cereal or some oatmeal but I don’t always have the luxury of time to make myself something, so I’ve been making these UH-MAY-ZING smoothies for breakfast with my Ninja Blender. They are so healthy and nutrient dense which keeps me feeling full with energy throughout the day. I just throw all the ingredients in, blend, and BAM… I’m starting my day off right. Not only do I use my blender for smoothies but we also make sauces and dressings. I recommend Ninja because we’ve had it for 3 years now with no issues. You also get two single serve 20oz cups if you just want to make a quick drink or smoothie for yourself.

3. FOOD CHOPPER

One thing we are not a fan of is being in kitchen chopping up vegetables for what seems like forever. We’ve been vegan for almost 2 years and early on we knew that we had to find a way to make this easier. We went out and bought an affordable food chopper like this one and never looked back. This seriously cuts your time in half when it comes to dicing and chopping your food. It also helps out the presentation because everything is cut into perfect little squares (if you care about that kind of thing, my wife does #symmetry). All the pieces come apart so clean up is easy. Just hand wash or throw in the dishwasher and you’re done. Having a food chopper is one of the best time-savers in the kitchen.

4. NON-STICK PAN

Ok, most of us have a non-stick pan by now but trust me…they are all not the same. We would get a pan and it would work, as advertised, for a while then slowly but surely things start to stick.  Eventually it would end up with me scrubbing to no end or letting the pan soak in soap water forever just to get it clean. Finally we got a non-stick pan like this one and it has been incredible. This isn’t your ordinary pan. It is made of a  stone derived coating interior. For real. This means that the pan gets hotter than your normal pan, cooks the food faster and more even, and is completely non-stick. We have had this pan for over 2 years and it’s great! Don’t spend more time than you have to scrubbing food off of the pan and trying to get the dishes clean. This pan has made it so much easier to cook, clean, and be done so we can relax.

5. CROCK-POT

I forgot how easy it is to make dinner using a crock pot. I mean you just throw some ingredients in, set it, and let it do it’s thing. We’ve always had a crock pot but it wasn’t as important as it is now especially since we are often crunched on time. This simple cooking tool has been our crutch. The meals are absolutely delicious, it’s ready when we get home, and again there is a no-fuss clean up. If your kitchen does not have a crock pot I would strongly recommend you trying it out. You’ll be amazed at how great it feels to be able to have a nice home-cooked meal with little to no effort on your part.

There you have it. The 5 tools that have been saving us time and allowing us to feed our family healthy and home-cooked meals.

What do you do to save time cooking dinner?
